The Hidden Gems of Singapore

The Hidden Gems of Singapore

By Jonas H., Oslo
I’ve been to Singapore a few times for business, but this trip was my first real chance to explore. Mireille, my guide, had a knack for finding the city’s lesser-known treasures.

We began in Kampong Glam, where the Sultan Mosque’s golden dome shimmered in the morning light. Mireille shared stories of the area’s history as a bustling trade hub and guided me to Haji Lane, a narrow street brimming with vibrant murals and quirky shops. It felt like stepping into an artist’s dream.

One of my favorite moments was visiting the Thian Hock Keng Temple in Chinatown. As we stood in the courtyard, Mireille explained the significance of the intricate carvings and the temple’s role in the lives of early Chinese immigrants. The quiet beauty of the space left me in awe.

Later, we stopped at a Peranakan café where I tried kueh lapis, a traditional layered cake. Sitting there, sipping tea and listening to Mireille’s stories, I felt deeply connected to the soul of Singapore.
